Matthews Beach Homes for Sale
The main attraction of the Matthews Beach neighborhood is, of course, Matthews Beach, a 22-acre lakefront park and beach on the northwest shore of Lake Washington that is a favorite destination for freshwater swimming. During the summer months, the beach has two lifeguards staffing the shore and a diving platform is anchored in the water. There is a small area of sand, but most of the park and shoreline is grass and dotted with picturesque drooping willow trees. There are also tree-lined paths, a playground, a half-court basketball area, picnic tables, and boat launch.
Other than the park area, Matthews Beach is entirely residential. Many people conflate this area with Sand Point, Meadowbrook, or Wedgwood, and the demographic similarities between these neighborhoods are many. Most of the Matthews Beach homes are high-end single-family homes that prioritize the view of the water and close access to either the park or the Burke-Gilman trail, which is ideal for joggers, cyclists, or skaters.
The cherished Thornton Creek runs through Matthews Beach and empties into Lake Washington at the park. The creek is home to many species of frogs, newts, ducks, birds, and beavers, and represents an important source of watershed biodiversity for King County. It also makes a great learning source for children!
